I've just received an interesting article from NASA.
Who'd have thunk it, eh? Our own sun is a variable star!
Actually, I'd suspected it for some time what with the 11-or-so year cycle of sunspot activity. I just never thought it could vary so much in such a short space of time...

Pro Mainly I think they considered it to be just a run of the mill, plain, middle-aged star. Just goes to show that in astronomical matters you should never assume anything.

Pro So does this make it a much younger star than first considered? And much more active than first thought? GBHs...XXX

As a variable star this would give some explaination why we hardly ever see it. It's variably blocked by clouds and rain.

Just goes to show - we should never take anything for granted. Variety is the spice of life they say.
